Apple Hill - 2018 Sep 27

Gobo's Lunch Bunch members are definitely aging.  None of us can eat a lot.
But we can at least buy goodies on our trips.

Today we head to Apple Hill.
Apple Hill is about 50 miles east of Sacramento and 70 miles west of Lake Tahoe along Hwy 50.

Until the early 1960's this area grew mainly pears. Then the pear blight took production from 52,000 tons in 1958 to 8,435 in 1965.  You can read about the history of Apple Hill here: Apple Hill History

Route to and from Apple Hill
Jennifer and Caroline meet me at my home and we drive to pick up Elsa because she lives along today's route.

Here we pick up Elsa on our way.

First stop is at {link}Andrae's Bakery in Amador City an old Gold Rush town.  Current population is 191.
Jennifer's favorite cookie which were not ready yet.

Next stop is  {link}Apple Ridge Farms at Apple Hill, Camino, CA.

Then Jennifer had us head to Boa Vista Farms so she could pick up a jar of Apple Butter for her good friend.

She also bought some other stuff

From Boa Vista we head to High Hill Ranch which is also adjacent to quite a few other venues.

Caroline sits down.  What a beautiful spot with a big pond.

Elsa grabbed a bottle of water and joins the table

Jennifer took this photo as I was posting to Facebook

Another photo from Jennifer

We walk about 200 feet from the pond to the {link}Fudge Factory
They used to have a carved big bear standing at the entrance

The whole group photo was taken by a friendly stranger

This was Jennifer's photo

We then leave Apple Hill for our trip back home.  We basically back tracked our trip but we did make 3 stops before arriving back at Elsa's home.

First we had to phone Andrae's Bakery to see if they had any Graham Cracker cookies.  They did so that was stop 1.

Stop 2 was at a tiny fruit stand just above the entrance to the Sutter Creek Italian Picnic Grounds along Highway 49.

Everyone bought something here because the prices were really low

Stop 3 was just west of Clements at {link}Biglieri Farms Market.  No photos but Caroline bought some squash.  Interestingly they were selling acorn squash at 4 for a dollar Or one dollar a piece.  She bought 4.
She also bought a {link}Kabocha squash for one dollar.

I bought 3 pounds of walnut meat for $10.35 mostly for my sister to bake cookies.

We then travel the remaining 16.5 miles back to Elsa's home.
